Gender and Development Research Institute (GDRI)

APSW
established the GDRI as its research arm in 1990 with the initial support of UNIFEM. GDRI has implemented programs with a view to mainstream women into the policy agenda and to enhance the full and effective participation of women in the decision making process.

The Objectives of the institute are as follows:

1. To carry out action research on policy issues which address the strategic needs of women with the view to advance the status of women for a more equitable society.

2. To promote democratization of political development by broadening the base of women's participation in public life.

3. To support the full and equal participation of women in power structures and decision-making at all levels.

4. To promote positive images of women with a view to influence the creation and the transformation of policies affecting women.

5. To eliminate gender bias in laws, policies and practices.

Dr Suteera Thomson Vichitranonda is a co-founder of the GDRI and she is currently its advisor.
